Henri Labrouste(1801.5.11–1875.6.24)is one of the most important representatives of architects in France in the 19 th century and is an important figure in the neoclassical and modernist period of the Renaissance. He inherited the traditional architectural ideas of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris and laid a solid foundation for the modern architectural movement that began in the 20 th century. His special gestures in the neoclassical movement were unique and opened the prelude to structural rationalism.Nowadays, many topics discussed in architecture have begun to be seriously considered in the 19 th century when Labrouste was located, such as structure, space, materials and construction. Therefore the in-depth study of Labrouste's design practice is still meaningful for contemporary architecture thinking. In this paper,Labrouste's design thoughts are divided into three phases according to chronological order:First: His experience in studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris and Rome and his early works;Second: Analysis From design and theory of his two libraries;Third: Explaining his influence on the French mainland and future generations. Finally,on the basis of the above research, this article compares and analyzes his works with other important works of the same time to refine the core of Labrouste's design ideas and then inspire the design at contemporary society.
