Energy and environmental issues are the common challenges facing the world.Traffic system is the largest energy consumer industry with the highest growth rate.China has entered upon a new era,economic structural adjustments tend to pursue high quality development.Traffic system energy consumption should not be ignored.The urban road traffic system energy consumption is discussed from the two macro and normal angles in Nanjing.The LEAP model is taken to calculate the urban road traffic system energy consumption from the macro level,and energy demand in 2016-2030 with three energy-saving scenarios have been analyzed.From the normal level,RFID data on urban road are used to calculate the energy consumption of road network.Vehicle Specific Power(VSP)is chosen as the intermediate variable connecting the fuel economy and traffic flow data.Firstly,the urban road traffic system is fell into three categories: public transport,private transport and else.The external factors and internal factors of urban road traffic system are been discussed.Secondly,Long-range Energy Alternatives planning system LEAP model is chosen for urban road traffic system energy consumption calculation.Data needs of the model are divided into three-part: activity levels of the base year,energy intensity and driving factor of activity levels of the forecast year.The characters of the urban road traffic system energy consumption in 2015 in Nanjing are analyzed using the LEAP model.The amount of the energy consumption is 312.7 thousand tce in whole urban road traffic system.The amount of the energy consumption in public transport is 96.8 thousand tce,and 197.5 thousand tce in private transport.For energy consumption structure,gasoline has the largest proportion,which accounts for 82.41%;the next is natural gas with 9.18%;followed by diesel,constituting 6.27%;while electricity has the smallest percentage,at 2.14%.Comparing the energy efficiency,Bus has the largest energy intensity,which is 3.15 times and 2.37 times than taxi and private car,respectively.But the per capita energy intensity of bus is smallest,only 1/8 of taxi and 1/7 of private car.Because the passenger capacity of motorbike and electric bicycle is the smallest in urban road traffic system,the energy efficiency of these two means are smaller than other means of transportation.So,bus is the most energy-saving means in urban road traffic system.Thirdly,a standard scenario and three energy-saving scenarios are set for predictive analyzing the energy demand in 2016-2030 in Nanjing.The three energysaving scenarios are: public transport priority scenario,energy upgrading scenario and comprehensive energy saving scenario.The results showed that travel structure adjustment is more energy-saving than energy upgrading.Developing large-carryingcapacity public transport with clean energy is effective for energy saving and consumption reducing of urban road traffic system.Finally,Vehicle Specific Power(VSP)is chosen as a intermediate variable connecting the fuel economy and traffic flow data to build the urban road energy consumption calculation model.RFID data on urban road are used to calculate the energy consumption of road network.The results showed that the greater traffic volume alone with the greater energy consumption.The fuel economy of section of an urban road from low to high,respectively are: main road,minor arterial road and slip road.
