Contextual Restoration Of Bell And Drum Tower Of The Qing Dynasty At Tongzhou

Located at the northern end of the Grand Canal,Tongzhou is a traditional town of canal transportation and storage.With the development of the Grand Canal,Tongzhou also have many architectural and cultural heritage.Bell Tower is a special symbol of the city.It is also a rare public space in ancient Chinese cities.It carrys the historical culture of the city and witnesses the continuous changes of the years.As an important landmark building in Tongzhou ancient city,Tongzhou Bell Tower has existed for more than 500 years from its construction to its demolition.The purpose of restoring Tongzhou Bell Tower is to continue the cultural transmission of the historic city of Tongzhou and to awaken people’s historical memory of the ancient city.And Tongzhou Bell Tower was demolished in 1968,2018 is the anniversary of 50 years after the demolition,that has extraordinary significance.Based on the existing historical data and similar building cases,this paper makes a speculative restoration of Tongzhou Bell Tower.Firstly,the historical evolution of Tongzhou Bell Tower is sorted out through the records and documents,Mastereing the complete process from the beginning of construction to the final demolition.And explore the important functions of Tongzhou Bell Tower.Secondly,through comparative study,clarifying the unique value of Tongzhou Bell and Drum Tower,and carried out the value evaluation to clarify the significance of recovery.According to the existing image data and historical photographs,combined with the similar bell and Drum Tower building cases in the surrounding areas of Beijing,this paper makes a thorough study on the restoration style of the building monomer,and completes the restoration scheme.The restoration results were verified by literature and official building practices in the Qing Dynasty.Then,investigating the historical environment,alleys,alleys and existing historical buildings of Tongzhou Bell Tower in Qing Dynasty and studied to restore the surrounding historical environment of Tongzhou Bell Tower.Finally,the complete set of restoration drawings was drawn,and the restoration model was made.In order to better reproduce the original appearance of Tongzhou Bell Tower in Qing Dynasty,the digital display method is used to make the results more stereoscopic and visualized,so as to help the construction of the Vice-Center.
