As the main power part of the diesel engine, the piston is directly under enormous pressure during the working process. It is continuously sustained by mechanical loads in the worst working environment.Mechanical loads includes gas pressure, reciprocating inertial force, side force, friction load and so on.Because its working condition is complicated, piston failures account for a large proportion in diesel engine failures and the piston pins is wearing parts,it has the important significance of optimization design and practical application of the piston to research the piston and the piston pin.8L265 type of piston of the diesel engine is adapted as the analysis example.Firstly,Software PROE is used to create the models of piston and piston pin. Then Software ABAQUS is used to perform the finite element analysis.Models for a single piston and contact between the piston and pin are developed.Temperature field is also obtained and the thermal mechanical coupling analysis is also implemented based on the contact model of piston and piston pin.Static strength analysis results of a single piston show that piston is at the stage of elastic deformation.Contact analysis of piston and piston pin shows that the maximum strain is at the edge of the lower part of the piston skirt. The maximum equivalent stress is located on both sides of the piston pin hole. The maximum contact stress is located on the upper side of the piston pin.Comparison between of two models shows that the contact analysis model is more in accordance with the actual conditions.Coupled thermo-mechanical analysis shows that the maximum equivalent stress and the maximum contact stress are generated on the inner contact surface between the piston pin and the pin hole.Stress concentration is occurred. The results of this paper provide some theoretical analysis data and basis for the design and improvement of diesel engine piston.
