Nuclear polar cranes, used in the nuclear power plants, can lift heavy components such as steam generators, pressure vessels and reactor internals during the construction and operation of the nuclear power plants. The rated lifting weight and dead weight of the nuclear polar cranes of the third-generation nuclear power plants all reach hundreds of tons. The safety under seismic waves has become a major factor restricting their performance. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the transient response mechanism and the seismic performance of nuclear polar cranes under earthquakes. In this dissertation, the 1:16 scale model seismic experiment and the finite element simulation analysis method is carried out to research the anti-seismic performance of a certain type of nuclear polar crane. The scale model of the nuclear polar crane is designed based on the similarity criteria and the scale model seismic experiment is completed at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering in Dalian University of Technology.A finite element model of the scale model of the third-generation nuclear polar crane is established based on ABAQUS.The time-history analysis method is used to study the dynamic response of the scale model.By compared with the experimental results, the wheel-rail constraint and key parameters in the finite element model are determined. The method of setting the wheel-rail constraint is highlighted if a derailment happens. The main work of the dissertation includes:(1)According to the similar criteria, the scale model and the seismic performance analysis experiment of the nuclear polar crane are designed;(2)The experiment of the nuclear polar scale model is completed and the experimental results are sorted out and analyzed. Some dynamic response laws and the the most dangerous condition of the nuclear polar scale model under the earthquake are obtained;(3).A finite element model of the scale model of the nuclear polar crane is established. The method of setting the wheel-rail constraint either a derailment happens or not is given. The settings of key parameters such as Rayleigh damping and friction coefficient are given too;(4)The steps and notices of the time-history analysis method are described, which is used to study the dynamic response of the scale model of the nuclear polar crane.By compared with the experimental results, the accuracy of the time history analysis method was verified;(5)The modal analysis and the dynamic time-history analysis of the prototype of the nuclear polar crane are carried out.By compared with the scaled model experimental results, the correctness of the design of the scale model of the nuclear polar crane is verified; The methods of seismic experiments and simulation proposed in this dissertation provide references for the seismic design of nuclear polar cranes in the future.
