At present,the domestic copycat rampage,chaos,building constructio n economic fluctuations and a variety of domestic and international trends and the impact on the economic interests of the drive and lure,original design integrity designers suffered serious destruction to the architectural design market and the national "soft power" to promote the serious harm.Based on such a background,the author thinks it is necessary to study the application of totem in architectural space.Through research,to find the source of design,for the era of the original design of the big opening to provide a theoretical basis.In the second chapter of this totem of "Introduction",the author first briefly selected some representative elements in Western totem,the learning and understanding,in order to start from the surface of Totem: sha pe,color,function,category,material,and a preliminary summary of the totem characteristics: Religion and literature nature,aesthetics,space and spirit."The pan totem" concept,is the concept of generalized totem,to analyze and understand the expression of totem in the modern architectural space becomes more diverse and easy,but also for Modern Applications(totem totem observation)provides more possible.A preliminary understanding of totems provides a knowledge base for the analysis of totems in architectural spaces.From the third chapter to the sixth chapter,the author from China phenomenon or feature and Western totem in classical and modern architectural space is shown in the study,research and understanding,to explore the original impulse of architectural space based on the search,at the same time give a different perspective of architecture,architectural design and mining the origin.In this case,the author selected the representative cases of the project in different periods of China and the west.The classical architecture has the same characteristics in totem expression,while the totem expression of modern architecture is more suitable for the present reality.At the same time,the choice of these cases also laid a foreshadowing fo r the contrast between China and the west.In the seventh chapter,the author focuses on the contrast and analysis of the application of Chinese and Western totems in architectural space.East and West totem,whether from the ideological,philosophical,or from the aesthetic,religious,there are similarities and differences.The biggest difference is summed up as "harmony" and "struggle" ".China's space philosophy stresses " harmony between man and nature " and " harmony ";the architectural philosophy in the West emphasizes " the struggle between heaven and earth " and " struggle for it "".Understanding these differences and connections provides a theoretical basis for distinguishing between Chinese and Western cultures and for guiding the future architectural design.The author took more pictures and strengthened the observability so as to make the theory more explicit.Through the above discussion,this article finally draws the conclusion.Among them,the differences between Chinese and Weste rn totems in architectural space are mainly "abstract" and "concrete",plane and stereoscopic,and it is pointed out that the freedom of architecture is the future of architectural design.This is the contribution of this paper.
