Old and low-rise buildings on southeast coastal areas of China suffer the intrusion of typhoon every year, and typhoon landings often damage or even collapse large numbers of low-rise buildings. Most of the low-rise houses in rural areas have gable roofs, and buildings of different heights are often scattered together due to topography.Prior investigations verified that the relative height of low-rise flat roof buildings has a notable effect on the wind load distribution. However, similar studies on the gable roofed building is so limited. Therefore, the study of the wind load distribution and wind-induced disturbance effects of low-rise buildings with different heights and gable roofs is of great significance for understanding the causes and mechanisms of wind disasters in rural and coastal areas. In this paper, four different turbulence models were used to simulate the wind load distribution of typical structures. The simulation results were compared with the field test and wind tunnel test data, and then the most suitable turbulence model were selected, and the validity of the numerical simulation method were verified.Secondly, the basic theory of interference effect was expounded, and the numerical simulation of two low building models with different heights was carried out to study the influence of height factors on wind load distribution and wind induced interference effect between two buildings. It is found that the negative wind pressure coefficients of the leeward roof of the disturbed building decreases with increases in the height ratio when the height ratio is less than 2 between two low-rise gable roof buildings, the wind pressure coefficients of the leeward roof are negative and will increase with increases in the height ratio when the height ratio is greater than 1.Besides,interference coefficient of roof under different height ratios was given, which can be used as refee for similar buildings in wind resistant design. Finally, numerical simulation was used to analyze the wind load and airflow interference of actual rural building group based on the meteorological data of typhoon Meranti landed. Results showed that for the irregular low-rise building group,60° is the most unfavorable wind direction and the wind speed is larger in both sides of the windward side of the building group and the area between the front row houses. The height variation of the front row houses has different effects on the roof wind pressure coefficient and interference effect of this irregular building group model.Overall, negative pressure and possibility of destruction of the roof increase if the height increases and decrease if the height keeps the same, and the roof of the buildings located outside the group is prone to large interference effect. The interference coefficient can be adjusted to adjust the load to meet the wind resistance design requirements.
