“Safety first”is the consensus which reached by the shipping industry practitioners,“to make navigation safer,and to make the ocean cleaner” is the aim of the international maritime organization.In recent years,Chinese shipping industry is developing rapidly,and the business of shipping company is increasing steadily,however,some safety problems are highlighted gradually,the pressure to guarantee navigation safety becomes greater and greater,therefore,under circumstance of the rapid growth of traffic and the number of ships,we must take some effective measures to reduce the accident rate.Many survey results and studies show that the reason why the majority of maritime accidents happen is the unsafe behavior of seafarers.Therefore,it is of great significance to guide seafarers to participate in the safety behaviors actively,and to enhance the safety performance of seafarers.The research object of this paper is seafarers,and we conduct research based on the basic issues of the relationship between organization climate and safety performance,explore the relationships among organization climate,engagement and safety performance of seafarers in depth.The paper focuses on solving the following key issues:(1)the relationship between organization climate and safety performance of seafarers;(2)the relationship between organization climate and engagement of seafarers;(3)the relationship between engagement and safety performance of seafarers;(4)the role which engagement plays in the relationship between organization climate and safety performance of seafarers.The paper carries out the literature review on organization climate,engagement and safety performance firstly,and induces and summarizes systematically.Then,the paper defines the connotation and dimension of each variable,and points out the hypothesis and model of this study on the basis of theoretical research.Referring the existing mature measuring scales,and combing with the research object and research need,the questionnaire of this paper is formed.Through the questionnaire,we collect and sort out sample data,and test the reliability and validity.Then we have the correlation analysis and regression analysis based on the data collected,and build the structural equation to explore the intermediary role which engagement plays in the relationship between organization climate and safety performance of seafarers.Through theoretical analysis and empirical research,this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)Seafarers' organization climate has significantly positive effect on their engagement;(2)Seafarers' organization climate has significantly positive effect on their safety performance;(3)Seafarers' engagement has significantly positive effect on their safety performance;(4)Engagement plays a partial intermediary role in the relationship between organization climate and safety performance of seafarers.The main innovations of this paper are reflected in the following aspects:(1)The introduction of safety performance,and the research on the relationships among organization climate,engagement and safety performance,this paper fills the defect of the correlative research on engagement and safety performance;(2)Cross-over research on organization climate,engagement and safety performance,this paper promotes the development of discipline integration;(3)This paper applies the research on organization climate,engagement and safety performance to the field of navigation.
