Although the relationship between urban built environment and residents' physical activity and health has been widely discussed,However, the current study focuses on the results of environmental resources and activities, and there are few choices regarding the activities of senile residents. However, the choice of senile residents' activity patterns is inseparable from the actual capabilities they have.It is an important perspective that to explain the relationship between physical activity and built environment from the capability approach. This article examines the relationship between urban built environment and physical activity of the elderly from two aspects of physical activity, namely activity ability and activity results, and deeply understands the significant relationships and built-in dynamics between built environment elements and physical activities of senile residents,to use limited social resources to maximize physical activity. This study builds a framework for capability/result and O/D/R analysis on the basis of relevant theoretical studies at home and abroad. With the support of the new data environment and the open data platform, relying on a large amount of data in the development of Dalian City, the built environment from the three spatial levels of point-service facilities,line-street networks and surface-building plots research.Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods,an in-depth study of the built environment support system for elderly physical activity was conducted. The study found that:(1)In general, the built environment has influence on activity ability and activity result respectively, but there are significant differences in the effect and extent of impact on different senile residents;(2)The built environment has a significant impact on the ability of activities, but the effect on the results of the activities is not significant;and the ability of activities has a significant positive effect on the results of the activities.(3)Among the key influencing factors of the built environment, the nuclear density of parks and kindergartens has a positive impact on the activity ability, while the functional mixed plot and the building height have a negative reffect on the activity capacity. Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen capacity building, pay attention to improving the opportunities for senile residents to respond to the built environment, and improve the characteristics of key built environments. This has important practical significance for promoting the physical activity and physical health of the elderly.
