Ship stability concerns the safety of ship's navigation,which has always been an important research direction in the industry.In recent years,International Maritime Organization(IMO)has published multiple official draft documents based on various countries' maritime organization's proposals every year.With the joint efforts of various maritime organizations in the world,the basic profile of the second generation intact stability rules has been formed at present,and is divided into five failure modes: surf-riding/broaching,parametric roll,pure stability loss,dead-ship stability,excessive accelerations,each mode contains two levels vulnerability criteria and direct stability assessment.That the systematic and comprehensive study on the five failure modes of the second generation intact stability would effectively promote the formation of the second generation intact stability standard and ultimately improve the navigation safety of ships in waves.Based on the official draft documents published by IMO,this paper mainly commits the study on the calculation methods of vulnerability criteria of level 2 for surf-riding/broaching,develop corresponding calculation program,perform sample ship calculations for various kinds of ships,Then analyze the influenc factors and consistency of level 1 and level 2,and put forward relevant suggestions.the main content contains:Firstly,calculation method and theory of vulnerability criteria for surf-riding/broaching are studied;Based on the method and theory,calculation programs of vulnerability criteria of level 2 for surf-riding/broaching are developed,the parameters required for program development are optimized and the reliability of programs is verified through comparison with results in official draft documents;Secondly,using the above reliable numerical calculation program,calculation of various types of sample ships is carried out to verify the reliability of criteria values,which offers supporting and reference to the establishment of surf-riding/broaching vulnerability criteria;Thirdly,on the basis of the sample ships calculation,the factors that affect the evaluation results of the surf-riding/broaching are analyzed and summarized,then the relevant suggestions are put forward.
