| At present, growth media are mainly made from peat. With the emphasis on environmental issues, these non-renewable resources will be used less and less and replaced by some new environmental protection materials. This project intends to study how solid wastes such as straws can be transformed to horticultural substrate.Biochar pyrolyzed from maize straw was selected to replace peat, and granulate stability and pot experiment were conducted to investigate composition effect on granulate stability and on growth and nitrogen use efficiency of Zinnia and Tagetes erecta L.The results were as follows:(1)Results from Physicochemical properties of granulation with different ratios of biochar showed that when biochar: phospho gypsum: polyvinyl alcohol vinylalcohol polymer: N-isopropyl-zcrylamide is 211.1:783.9:1.7: 3.3,the biochar granulation had good water stability and pressure resistance, and the pH was neutral; When Biochar: Fly ash is 600:400,biochar granulation had poor water stability and pressure resistance and was not suitable for biochar granulation production.(2)Experiments on the germination rate of biochar ratios on biomass marigold germination showed that biochar granulated medium(biochar: phosphor gypsum: polyvinyl alcohol vinylalcohol polymer: N-isopropyl-zcrylamide= 211.1: 783.9: 1.7: 3.3)significantly increased germination rate of Tagetes erecta L.compared with other treatments.(3)Growth experiment biochar ratios on Tagetes erecta L.and Zinniashowed that adding media with biochar: phospho gypsum: polyvinyl alcohol vinylalcohol polymer: N-isopropyl-acrylamide =211.1:783.9:1.7:3.3,Tagetes erecta L.and Zinnia had higher plant height, biomass, and better growth.(4)The experiment on the nitrogen use efficiency of biochar media showed that the addition of biochar media(peat: vermiculite: perlite: biochar: soil= 2:1:1:2:4),significantly increased nitrogen use efficiency(50.62%)than,while the addition of peat media(peat: vermiculite: perlite: biochar: earth= 4:1:1:0:4)(31.67%);and the recovery rate with biochar media(83.65%)was higher than peat media(53.32%).In this study, biochar made from renewable agricultural waste straw was used as the substrate to cultivate Zinnia and Tagetes erecta L.,and the cultivation effect was better than that of the peat substrate. At the same time, under the premise of guaranteeing flowering quality, the cost was reduced. Therefore,it is feasible that biochar pyrolyzed from the renewable agricultural wastes could begranulated and used as a substrate for Zinnia and Tagetes erecta L.to replace the peat substrate. |
