With the growing scale of domestic expressways,improvement of density and complexity among regions and development towards the direction of complex gridding,drivers find it increasingly difficult to get the way within the complex expressway.In the condition of complex road network,higher demanding guide design for expressway interchange is necessary.However,there is no specific regulation regarding the layout,choice of content,etc.for it,and drivers ' cognition hasn't been taken into consideration for the sign design.Therefore,based upon the analysis on the traffic characteristic within the complex road network and status quo of guide design for general expressways,firstly,author proposes the requirement to set up the guiding sign for the complex expressways and factors including drivers' vision,physiology and mentality should be leveraged in the design of guide design for expressway interchange.Secondly,field test is selected in this thesis to make a research on the correspondent behaviours in the process of driving by experimenting two groups of real vehicles on the complex road network consist of G3 expressway,G15 expressway,G70 expressway,Fuzhou Loop expressway and so on.In this experiment,10 subjects have been invited to find the way in the single interchange and the whole road network,monitored by ErgoLAB to collect vision parameter and physiological parameter while observing the guide sign.Through the detailed analysis,searching pattern for drivers in the process of observing the sign plates and the influence of guide sign in interchange area on drivers within the complex expressway network are as follows:(1)When there is plenty of information on the sign plate,drivers usually start their search from the top left corner and end with their expected information,following the order of top to bottom and left to right.Placename information make a more sensitive influence over the drivers than English letters and numeric type of information.(2)Diverse destination information affects the drivers' physiological parameter significantly;similarly,whether the control information planned ahead of time is presented on the guiding signed has a great impact on the drivers' pupil size and amplitude of gradient signal.Moreover,whether the guide sign are continuous can affect drivers' pupil size while searching the road signs.Furthermore,established in the above theoretical studies,layout and content design for guide sign applied to complex expressway network and evaluation system are proposed.Finally,in example of Xiuzhai interchange,guide sign have been redesigned in the interchange area and 25 subjects have been invited to verify the accuracy of finding the diverse destinations with these guide sign,which is as high as 96%.It witness its high application value in the design of guide sign in the interchange roads.This research conclusion can be used for reference in the design of guide sign for expressway interchange in the condition of complex road network.
