Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of cities, the traffic problem has become the main factor restricting the sustainable development of the big city, and it has a great impact,on city efficient operation and people’s daily lives.Firstly, the paper introduces the development of public transportation and re-views the research status of feeder bus network design problem.Secondly, the math-ematical model of the feeder bus network design problem under M-1 passenger de-mand mode is given.Based on the principle that the bus stops can be repeated and the bus routes can be crossed, and taking the total cost of passengers and bus operators as optimizing object,a heuristic algorithm is designed to generate the initial feeder bus route sets. Moreover, the bus nodes which are on these unreason-able routes will be assigned to the best location of reasonable routes by inserting operation, which optimizes the structure of routes and performance of the network.Thirdly, under the condition that the stations’ locations are known and road network structure is unknown,we investigate the feeder bus network design problem under M-M passenger demand mode. The number of bus routes passing through a stop is identified according to passenger demand of each bus stop in unit time. Moreover,we introduce the concept of half-distance between sets, and a reverse radial scanning algorithm is designed to generate initial feeder bus route sets, which meet the con-straints and the design requirements;A route optimization algorithm is introduced to integrate those unreasonable routes, and every bus stop which is on unreason-able routes will be reassigned to the best location of a reasonable route by inserting operation; The algorithm is used to solve a small-scale feeder bus network design problem, and the results show that the proposed reverse radial scanning algorithm and route optimization algorithm are feasible. In the end,we discuss the feeder bus network design problem under many-to-many passenger demand pattern under the condition that the stations’ locations and road network topological structure are known.Combined with the shortest path algorithm,we design a heuristic algorithm to generate initial feeder bus routes and use new route optimization procedures to integrate unreasonable routes, reorganize similar routes and merge inclusion routes.Every bus stop which is on unreasonable routes and is not served by reasonable bus routes will be assigned to the best location of a reasonable route by inserting operation. We describe the process of generation and optimization of new feeder bus network through an example.Furthermore,we analyze the variation of feeder bus network performance in the process of optimization by several system performance indexes, such as passenger travel cost, bus running cost and total system cost and so on.The results indicate that the overall performance of the feeder bus network has been greatly improved after optimization.
