High reliability and long life mechanical seal is required for high parametric mechanical equipment.Limit PV value of the material is the factor that restrict the design of high PV mechanical seal.In order to improve the limit PV of material,the frictional behavior of elliptic pored is carried experimentally.First,according to the experimental requirement of poor lubrication,rich lubrication and limit PV,UMT.HDM tribological testing machines are chosen.And surface topography is finished by laser process.Then,the experimental study on the frictional behaviour of surface texture in poor lubrication is carried out.The results show that the frictional coefficient increased at first and then decreased with increasing ratio of the textured area.There exists an optimum area ratio to attain minimal frictional coefficient and temperature.Frictional coefficient may increase or decrease with variation of the elliptic pore opening rate.In the experiment,when the surface was fully textured which area ratio of 0.165,tilt angle 40°,minimum frictional coefficient and temperature rise were achieved.The frictional coefficient was below 0.4,50%smaller than the smooth.The final temperature was 37? which was 10? lower than the smooth.Further.the experimental study on the frictional properties of circular and elliptical microporous in rich lubrication is carried out.The results show that texture surface frictional coefficient and temperature were less than the smooth under the same conditions.And in the experiment elliptical microporous maximum friction coefficient was 0.14,greatly reduced compared with the smooth 0.7.Also the frictional coefficient and the temperature of elliptic pore was lower than circular pores.Finally,experiment of limit PV value on elliptic pore surface is performed.Relationship among pressure,temperature and the critical PV value are analyzed.The results show that surface texture can improve critical PV evidently.The inclined elliptical microporous hole angle.hole ratio,area ratio affect limit PV value.By exploring method of improving limit PV value,solid experimental foundation is performed for engineering application of surface texture,which has important theoretical and practical significance.
