More than 80%of one's life time is spent indoors.In recent years,with the improvement of people's live quality and development of science and technology,the requirements of thermal comfort on indoor thermal environment have become more and more high.At present,the international widely used evaluation standard of thermal comfort,such as ASHRAE Standard 55 and ISO 7730,are both developed on the basis of steady environment——traditional climatic chamber.However,more and more field studies have shown that thermal comfort in natural environments are significantly different from those in a laboratory.Hainan belongs to hot-humid area in China,but the climatic characteristics of high humidity and high temperature and strong radiation are obviously different from other hot-humid areas like Guangdong and Guangxi.So far few studies on thermal comfort in Haikou and others in Hainan have been performed yet.Natural ventilation can decrease building energy consumption obviously and improve indoor air quality,and it is a common design method of building in hot-humid area.Therefore,in this paper field investigation method was used to know the indoor thermal environment and human thermal comfort in naturally ventilated building in Hainan area,expecting to provide a database for design of energy-saving building and development and improvement of indoor thermal environment standards.In this paper,the research status of thermal comfort at home and abroad were summarized systemically,and development of related thermal comfort theories including thermal comfort equation,evaluation index of indoor thermal environment and evaluation standard of thermal comfort were mainly expounded,then the detailed study scheme was put forward combined with climate of Hainan and characteristics of people's life and work,and a field investigation of thermal environment and human thermal comfort in naturally ventilated building in a University in Hainan was carried out over 1 year,there were altogether 505 subjects in this investigation and 1823 effective questionnaires had got.The results show that the thermal environment in summer in naturally ventilated buildings in Hainan is poor,over 90%of the votes located between '+2(warm)' to '+4(very hot)',and votes from '+3(hot)' to '+4(very hot)' were about 70%,which can't meet people's requirement of thermal comfort.The thermal neutral air temperature is 21.07?;the 80%acceptable air temperature based on the measured percentage dissatisfied is 13.01-26.25?;the thermal neutral operative temperature is 21.14 ?,which is 3.81? lower than what in ASHRAE Standard(24.95?),and the 80%(90%)acceptable operative temperature is 17.12-25.17?(18.78-23.51?),which is wider than that in ASHRAE(21.40-28.50?(22.70-27.20?)),while the limit of the acceptable temperature is lower.Comparing with the results in Guangzhou,the thermal neutral standard effective temperature in Hainan is lower,and the 80%acceptable temperature is narrower,while the limit of the acceptable temperature is lower than that in Guangzhou.
