At present,in the sulfur-iodine cycle hydrogen production system, the research of HI decomposition catalyst mainly stays in the laboratory stage, and the related forming research work is very lack. However,it is necessary to do forming research work to remove the catalyst from the laboratory stage to industrial application. For an industrial catalyst,it should not only have good activity and stability, but also have certain physical properties.Otherwise, problems such as cracking, abrasion, and disintegration of active components will occur in industrial applications. In order to develop a catalyst that is suitable for industrial applications, has a fixed shape and good activity,it is necessary to study the forming process of the HI decomposition catalyst prepared in the laboratory. In the sulfur-iodine cycle hydrogen production system, both activated carbon and carbon-supported precious metal catalysts show good catalytic activity.Among them,Ru / C catalysts are favored by researchers because of their high activity and low cost.In this paper, activated carbon and Ru/C catalysts are the main objects, and the forming process is studied, including the following contents.(1)Research on the forming process and performance evaluation of activated carbon: Using the extrusion forming method, the powdered activated carbon is mixed with a binder and some water, and the formed activated carbon is produced through kneading, extrusion, drying, roasting and other processes.During the forming process,it was found that the kind and amount of binder,water-to-powder ratio, roasting method, and shape all affected the performance of the formed activated carbon.By doing experiments, the parameters of each link of the forming process were determined. The binder was selected as 10% CMC,the water-to-powder ratio was determined to be 2: 1,calcined at 350 ℃ for 1h,and finally used a customized 7×7 well plate developed honeycomb activated carbon(35×35×50mm).The HI decomposition rate of the molded activated carbon reached more than 20% at 500 ℃.(2)Forming process research and performance evaluation of Ru/C catalyst: Using ion exchange method to make Ru/C catalysts and developed them into a powder.Continuing with the activated carbon forming process, the Ru/C catalyst was made into a honeycomb catalyst with a size of 35×35×50mm,and active tests were carried out on it.The test results showed that the catalytic performance improved after activated carbon acid treatment, the Ru content is selected as 5%,the calcination temperature is selected as 370 ° C,and the binder dosage is 8%.The HI decomposition rate reached more than 23% at 500 ℃,laid the foundation for the industrial application of HI decomposition catalyst.
