Hard and brittle materials,such as ceramics,quartz glass,etc.,have been widely used in recent years because of their excellent properties,such as high hardness,heat resistant and corrosion resistance.On the other hand,it also have characteristics of high brittleness and low fracture toughness and it is very easy to produce brittle cracks and pits to use the traditional processing method.Micro milling technology can realize ductile regime cutting of brittle materials and can greatly improve the processing defects,but it is easy to generate temperature changing during the process of cutting,resulting in affecting application property and quality of the workpiece.Research shows that cutting temperature is closely related to machining parameters.So it is necessary to study the temperature field of micro milling in hard and brittle materials and discuss the machining parameter's influence on temperature field.Therefore,the main contents of this topic are as follows:Firstly,ball end milling cutter was used to milling quartz glass.Based on the theory of micro grinding,a theoretical temperature model of micro milling of quartz glass under rectangular,triangular and polynomial heat source models was established.We researched all the influence factors in the model,established a new type of heat source and analyzed and compared with the other two heat sources.Secondly,the finite element software ANSYS was used to simulate micro milling temperature and loaded moving heat source by APDL command streams and implemented the process of loop iterates.The temperature distribution of the workpiece could be seen in the post-process.Through the analysis and comparison of the simulation results,the distribution of temperature field of each heat source in micro milling could be clearly obtained.Finally,the temperature-measuring experiment based on the thermocouple method of micro milling were made on quartz glass.The temperature datas measured were arrayed and handled by orthogonal experiment,and we uesd the temperature datas and the simulation results to verify the analytical model.The results show that the analytic model of the temperature under the polynomial heat source has much accuracy.Then,the effects of spindle speed,spindle inclination,cutting depth and feed speed on the micro millingtemperature are studied,it can provide reference for the selection of processing parameters on different micro milling temperatures in the future.We observed the surface quality of the workpiece under several sets of cutting parameters,found that the temperature affects the quality of the surface,but mechnism remains obscure.
