The cyclic thiacalix[4]arenes obtained by condensation reaction of phenol units with sulfur are promising multidentate ligand to fabricate transition metal based metal clusters with multi-components.Metal clusters supported by thiacalix[4]arenes represent relatively stable coordination molecular structures in which the metal ions show concentrated aggregate form and well capped by aromatic organic sheets.Thiacalix[4]arene based clusters are expected to be good precursor candidates to sythesize carbon coated metal sulfide composites with well dispersed morphology. In this thesis, metal clusters constructed from p-tert-butylthiocalix[4]arene were utilized as precursors to fabricate multi-component composites which utilized as electrode materials for lithium-ion battery?LIBs?.1.Nitrogen and carbon modified Co9S8@CN composites were synthesized by direct calcination of thiacalix[4]arene based Co24 cluster containing cobalt, sulfur, carbon and nitrogen sources in insert conditions. The composition and morphology of the composite were characterized. The LIB performances of the composite are discussed considering the microstructure and synthesis temperature.2.The nitrogen-containing ligands such as N3-and C9H6N2 were used to link Co4-TC4A secondary building unit to synthesize a new Co8 cluster. The microstructures and components of the thermodecomposition product CoO@Co9S8@CN was characterized. Both LIB and supercapacitor properties were investigated.3.Co32 cluster with pure thiacalix[4]arene organic ligand were synthesized according to the literature.Carbon-modified CoO@Co9S8@C composites were synthesized by heat treatment with different temperature. The morphology of the composites without heterotopic atoms were characterized. The lithium battery performance of the composites in terms of microstructure and synthesis temperature was also explored. All the as-synthesized composites were characterized by PXRD,TEM,XPS,which indicated that Co9S8 with different components and morphology can be abtained from thiacalix[4]arene-supported metal cluster precursors with different auxiliary ligands. The fabricated composites also showed different LIB performances.
