Grey water footprint analyzes and assesses the impact of water pollution towards environment from point view of freshwater water needed to dilute pollutants. It has drawn increasing attention as a uniformed indicator for water pollution assessment and waste water control. However,it is found that existing researches on grey water footprint are less applied to industrial park level probably due to difficulty in data availability, although it is an important pollution source. On the other hand, the water pollution of industrial park focus more on contaminant treatment technology than on management. Therefore, research on industrial park water pollution by grey water footprint method would be meaningful for both extending grey water research and industrial park water pollution management.Meanwhile,as a subproject of“Major Science and Technology Program for Water Pollution Control and Treatment”,this research will take one of the typical industrial park,Changzhou economic and technology development zone(CETDZ),for case study. The results will facilitate the identification of water pollution situation and supply policy implications. This paper firstly builds a grey water footprint evaluation model at the industrial park level, and briefly introduces its background information and pollution situation through onsite investigation. Then the discharge of water pollutants and grey water footprint caused are calculated out by taking CETDZ as case study.Grey water footprint of different pollutant types, regional distribution, and sectoral difference such as sources from wastewater plant, industries and key enterprise are further investigated. The results show that the total grey water footprint is 1.07 billion m~3/a and the key pollutant is total phosphorus(TP).Enterprises that have not been integrated into the sewage pipelines discharge the highest amount of contaminants and cause the highest volume of grey water footprint among all discharge sources. From regional distribution perspective,Yaoguan town and Henglin town are the two regions with the most contaminant produced. From industries perspective, metal manufacture sector and textile sector are the dominant industries to produce grey water footprint and water contaminants. Moreover, the top nine enterprises for grey water footprint are also identified. Finally, five management countermeasures and strategies are proposed, namely, water discharge control for key enterprise, increase the integration rate of non-integrated enterprises, increase the reuse of wastewater from waste water treatment plant, intensify the treatment of rural sewage, and sediment removal for rivers. The grey water footprint reduction potential of different countermeasures is also analyzed and evaluated to supply policy implications for the pollution control and mitigation for CETDZ. |
