The Effect Mechanism Of Outward Foreign Direct Investment To Developed Countries On Green Innovation Of Manufacturing Enterprises

With the continuous development of society,countries all over the world pay more and more attention to green innovation,so that economic development and environmental protection go hand in hand.Green innovation is an important way to achieve low-carbon economic growth,but it is difficult to achieve,so manufacturing enterprises need to acquire green knowledge and technology from outside,especially from developed countries.Outward foreign direct investment(OFDI)can produce reverse technology transfer effect to improve the home country’s innovation capacity.Therefore,this paper focuses on whether OFDI to developed countries can transfer reverse green technology and promote green innovation of manufacturing enterprises in emerging economies.Based on the technology gap theory,resource bricolage theory,resource-based view,and Potter hypothesis,this study constructs a conceptual model including the direct effect of OFDI on green innovation and the moderating effects of the knowledge level of the host country,multinational strategy,absorptive capacity,and environmental regulation.Then,this paper uses text mining method to collect data of424 Chinese manufacturing enterprises from 2010 to 2017,and analyzes the current situation of enterprises’ OFDI and green innovation based on the existing data.The final empirical results show that :(1)OFDI to developed countries can reverse the transfer of green technology and promote the green innovation of the parent company.(2)The knowledge level of the host country,multinational strategy further promote the impact on green product innovation.(3)Absorptive capacity and environmental regulation do not play a significant moderating role.According to the empirical conclusion,this paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions.This paper expands the application scope of existing theories and enriches the theoretical basis of the relationship between OFDI and green innovation,and provides policy suggestions for the government and enterprises to improve the green innovation ability of manufacturing enterprises.
