In this paper,phthalyl β-alanine salt was prepared by reacting β-alanine from green amino acid with phthalic anhydride and then reacting with metal salt or rare earth salt.Although polypropylene(PP)has good comprehensive performance,its development and application in the chemical industry is limited due to its high crystallinity and poor impact.Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)also has a narrower application range as engineering plastics due to slower crystallization speed and poor toughness properties.We hope that phthaloyl β-alanine salt can be used as a nucleating agent for PP materials,and it can also have a certain modification effect on PET materials.Firstly,their nucleation effects on PP were investigated by analysis of mechanical properties and thermal properties.Since the modification effect of phthaloylβ-alanine calcium(PA-Ca)is the most prominent,it is characterized by infrared spectroscopy,thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction.PA-Ca was added to polypropylene in different amounts.It was found that PA-Ca is a highly efficient βnucleating agent,which can increase the crystallization temperature of polypropylene and shorten the crystallization time.It was found that PA-Ca improved the toughness performance of polypropylene more significantly and had no negative impact on the rigidity performance.Then the nucleation effect of phthaloyl β-alanine salt in nylon 6(PA6)and PET was investigated.It was found that PA-Ca has certain nucleation-promoting ability to PET and can greatly shorten the crystallization time.Subsequently,it was compared with several polypropylene nucleating agents and commercially available nucleating agents,and it was found that the modification effect of PA-Ca and other polypropylene nucleating agents on PET was comparable to that of commercially available nucleating agents.It shows that PA-Ca is a nucleating agent for polypropylene and PET materials.
