Due to the wide application of titanium alloy in the field of aerospace and biomedical materials,and the excellent performance of metallic glass compared with traditional alloy,we have a very high expectation for the performance and application of titanium based metallic glass.Therefore,it has been the hot spots to research and improve the forming ability mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of titanium based metallic glass in the amorphous field and even in the field of materials.However,the forming ability of titanium based metallic glasss is very sensitive to the element composition.At present,there is no composition design that can significantly improve its forming ability.Therefore,these series of metallic glasss have not been widely used since they were developed.Taking the metallic glass of ticuni system as the research object,this paper systematically studies the composition design of the metallic glass of Ti Cu Ni ?Ti Cu Ni Be ? Ti Cu Ni Gd ? Ti Cu Ni Nb ? and Ti Cu Ni Zr,the preparation method of amorphous bar and strip,the ability of formation,thermal stability,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance,and gives a brief description of the test equipment,testing principle and used method.This paper mainly includes the following aspects:Based on the design of the composition of the metallic glass in principles,five groups of metallic glass composition are designed,Ti50Cu42Ni8?(Ti50Cu42Ni8)96Be4?(Ti50Cu42Ni8)96Gd4?(Ti50Cu42Ni8)96Nb4?(Ti50Cu42Ni8)96Zr4,and five groups of metallic glass bars and ribbons of Ti Cu Ni system are respectively prepared by electric arc furnace smelting,copper mold suction casting and single roll belt rejection.The amorphous structure of the alloy was determined by X-ray diffractometer,which shows that all the five groups of alloy can be drawn into amorphous strip,but the ability of amorphous formation of Ti Cu Ni Be is the strongest,and the metallic glass bar with diameter of 2 mm is formed.The thermal stability of five sets of amorphous alloy strips was measured by the DSC integrated analyzer,and when the heating rate was 5-40K/min,two amorphous phases were generated in the five combined metals,and the width of Tg?Tx1?Tx2?Tp1 ? Tp2 and the overcooling phase area increased with the heating rate.Several commonly used amorphous formation capacity determination parameters of ?Tx?? do not apply to determine the amorphous formation capacity of Ti Cu Ni system,temperature Trl?Tg/Tm?is more suitable for determining the amorphous formation capacity of the system,and the metalic activation energy at Tp is calculated by the Kissinger equation.The mechanical properties of Ti Cu Ni Be amorphous bar were tested by compression test machine.The results show that its strength is so high that can reach 1900 MPa,but its plasticity is very poor.The corrosion resistance of five groups of amorphous strip was tested by electrochemical workstation and other instruments.Among the five kinds of metallic glasss,the one with the best corrosion resistance in acid environment is Ti Cu Ni metallic glass,the one with the best corrosion resistance in neutral environment is Ti Cu Ni Zr metallic glass,the one with the best corrosion resistance in alkaline environment is Ti Cu Ni Be metallic glass and Ti Cu Ni Gd metallic glass is worst.From the existing research conclusions and the overall results of this paper,the small atomic element Be is the most obvious to improve the ability of metallic glass formation in Ti Cu Ni system.Although the effect of element Gd on improving the ability of metallic glass formation is not obvious,its thermal stability,crystallization activation energy,anti-corrosion performance and so on are quite different from those alloys of other groups,and this can be studied in the further,As there is no conclusion about adding element Gd to the metallic glass of Ti Cu Ni system,so this study increases more possibility for the future research of this alloy system.
