With the rapid development of the global economy,human society is also making continuously a lot of progress.The popularity of various highways makes the rapid development of the automobile industry,which brings great convenience to people’s production and life.The global car ownership is increasing year by year.As the only contact part of the vehicle with the ground,the performance of the tire directly affects the driving safety and comfort of the vehicle.Based on the higher and higher requirements of the market for tire performance,the performance requirements of tire for materials are also higher and higher.In this paper,235/55R18 and 255/50ZR19,are selected as representative specifications to build the trial tire with nylon 840D/2 and aramid 1000D*1/nylon 840D*1 as cap ply separately,and make the performance comparison in indoor performance and outdoor vehicle test.The relative job is as below:(1)Compared the performance character of nylon 840D/2 and aramid 1000D*1/ nylon 840D*1;(2)Compared indoor performance tests,including the overall dimension,plunger,bead unseating,high speed,endurance,stiffness and rolling resistance;(3)Compared analysis the vehicle performance including the objective performance of dry wetland braking,passing by noise,and the subjective performance of ride comfort,vibration and noise,steering,handling,stability,etc.Through the above performance comparison,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Compared with nylon cord,aramid blended cord has significantly lower in lift ratio at constant load and elongation at break,but significantly higher in adhesive strength,breaking strength,cord strength and strength changes;(2)The outer diameter is smaller and the cross section is wider because binding force of aramid blended cord is greater than that of nylon cord in the outer diameter direction;(3)In the indoor performance test,the plunger of aramid blended cord is lower than that of nylon cord,but the high-speed performance is greatly improved,and the bead unseating resistance,endurance and rolling resistance are basically the same;(4)In the rigidity test,the radial rigidity of aramid blended cord is greater than that of nylon cord,and the longitudinal,transverse and torsional rigidity are basically the same;(5)Static grounding pressure distribution,the effect of aramid blended cord and nylon cord on the area,shape and length axis of static grounding is almost the same.(6)In the field test,the influence of aramid blended cord and nylon cord on dry wet braking,passing noise and subjective performance of tire is almost the same.But nylon cord has better steering performance,while aramid blended cord has better ride comfort,vibration and noise.To sum up,as the tire cap ply,aramid blended cord has a significant improvement in high-speed and radial rigidity compared with nylon cord,and other properties are basically the same.Therefore,when developing ultra-high speed tire,aramid blended cord could be a good selection for cap ply material.
