Polymers are everywhere in modern society.However,they burn fast and are accompanied by the release of large amounts of smoke and toxic gases.The use of flammable materials can lead to catastrophic loss of life and property.Polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)is an important component of polymers.It is widely used in industrial materials,coatings,home textiles and other fields and research on its flame retardancy has attracted widespread attention in recent years.Halogen-containing flame retardants were widely used in polymers due to their excellent flame retardancy,but their harm to the environment and human body has gradually restricted their use.Therefore,it is necessary to develop new environmentally friendly and efficient flame retardants to balance their performance with environmental issues.The preparation process of some existing flame retardant additives is complex and needs high load to achieve better flame retardant effect,which increases the time and economic cost,and may have a negative impact on other properties of the polymer,such as mechanical properties.In view of these problems,in this work,through a series of experiments,the method of improving the flame retardancy of polyvinyl alcohol was studied.The experimental group with the best performance was obtained: ?-ZrP / CPO / graphite oxide(GO)nanocomposite flame retardant materials(ZCG)were prepared in one step by hydrothermal method.The microstructure and composition of the composite material were analyzed in detail,and the results showed that ?-ZrP exhibited a hexagonal plate shape and its crystal lattice expanded.CPO appears preferentially oriented and stick-shaped,with ?-ZrP attached to its surface.GO is dispersed in the PVA matrix,which acts as a bridge to make the flame retardant and polymer matrix more tightly connected,and has the role of catalyzing carbonization of the matrix.The intumescent flame retardant system composed of ammonium polyphosphate(APP)and ZCG has a content of 10wt%,which is applied to flame retardant polyvinyl alcohol.The effect of intumescent flame retardant(IFR)based ZCG composite on the flame retardancy and thermal stability of PVA was studied.The results showed that when APP / ZCG was added to PVA,the peak heat release rate(PHRR)decreased by 49.8%;the limiting oxygen index(LOI)increased to 38;the carbon residue of thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)reached 19.65%;the vertical combustion test(UL-94)reached V-0;the ratio R of integral intensity of G-band and d-band from Raman test increased to 0.4316.Data from microcalorimetry(MCC)and TGA,as well as X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscope(SEM)of residual carbon show that the composite can promote the formation of good expanded carbon to a large extent,prevent the matrix material from flame and heat,thus improving the flame retardancy and thermal stability.The preparation method of the flame retardant additive is simple and rapid.And flame retardant can achieve good flame retardant effect on PVA under low load,which provides a new way for the design of novel flame retardant.
