Atmospheric pressure heating furnace is the main energy consumption unit of crude oil atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit in the refinery.Oxygen-rich combustion process is an effective means to efficiently use energy and reduce energy consumption. This subject mainly conducts research on the oxygen-enriched combustion characteristics of 32 Mw atmospheric pressure heating furnace using natural gas as fuel, through numerical simulation. The radiant chamber of the heating furnace uses a combustion model based on a fully stirred reactor. The effects of oxygen content, radiant chamber heat load, excess air coefficient, and radiant chamber volume on natural gas combustion, flue gas composition, radiant chamber temperature, and fuel savings were investigated and compared with the natural gas combustion characteristics under ordinary air atmosphere. In addition, the effect of oxygen-enriched combustion technology on the heat transfer characteristics of the convection chamber was also studied. The results show that as the oxygen content increases, the temperature and heat load of the radiation chamber increase, and the volume of the radiation chamber required for the complete combustion of natural gas decreases;when the oxygen content reaches 23%,with the oxygen concentration further increasing, the effect of the radiation chamber volume on natural gas combustion and flue gas composition becomes smaller;as the excess air coefficient is increased from 1.05 to 1.1,the oxygen content has the smallest effects on natural gas combustion, flue gas composition, and radiation chamber temperature;the effect of using oxygen-enriched combustion technology on the heat transfer characteristics of the convection chamber is within a controllable range. The simulation calculation results are compared with the actual operating data of the heating furnace collected, and the results are in good agreement. The use of oxygen-enriched combustion technology to improve the thermal efficiency of atmospheric furnaces is of great significance to energy saving and emission reduction in oil refineries.
