Study On Preparation Of ABS By Modified Mass ABS Method And Its Properties

The synthesis methods of ABS resin include emulsion polymerization-SAN compounding method(short for emulsion ABS method)and bulk polymerization method(also known as mass-ABS method).The bulk polymerization method is widely recognized because of its advantages of uncomplicate process,low waste water emission and low odor of finish product.But bulk method also has its limitations:the rubber content in ABS produced is relatively low and the mechanical properties is less competitive when compared to that produced through emulsion process.In this article,two aspects of ABS producing were studied.(1)Polymerization of ABS resin was successfully completed and the relations between its structure and mechanic properties,glossiness were analyzed.(2)As more and more attentions are focused on automotive inner environment,the improvement in the produce process was studied in order to lower the ABS odor and VOC value,and the aim is to limit the impact on human health caused by inner air quality.Firstly,one normal grade ABS was synthesized based on original route,the relations between ABS structure and ABS glossiness and mechanic properties were studied.These results would be beneficial to provide a theoretical ground for manufacture of more competitive ABS general product in ABS market.Secondly,as ABS odor and VOC content are concerned,some process parameters in the polymerization of ABS,such as additive content,reaction conversion,die temperature,devolatilization setting,were discussed.The suitable processing technology were selected to produce the ABS grade which could meet the requirements both in the mechanic property and environment requirement.
