Environmental engineering is a very practical major,students have limited engineering experience through traditional classroom theoretical teaching.Practice is an important link between theoretical knowledge and engineering practice in the training of environmental engineering talents.However,the lack of opportunities for equipment operation and observation of engineering details in the sewage treatment plant leads to poor teaching of environmental engineering practice,which cannot meet the needs for students to understand engineering design in depth and obtain engineering experience.In this paper,based on virtual reality(VR)technology,The C4D software is used to restore the structure of an actual sewage treatment plant 1:1,and produces a 3D model of the supporting sewage treatment equipment,and reduce model polygon,reorganize UV,make collision body.The UE4 software is used to set up the basic environment of the sewage treatment plant,restore the core processes at each stage of the sewage treatment,and use the blueprint for interactive logic design.Based on the activated sludge TUD metabolic mathematical model,the core process was simulated using Aquasim simulation software,and integrated into the VR courseware to realize the simulation operation and data visualization.A complete set of virtual reality teaching software of sewage treatment plant was developed for practical teaching of environmental engineering,including 1 virtual laboratory and 13 cases of sewage treatment structures.The virtual laboratory contains four modules:structure model display,plant sand table,sewage treatment equipment summary,and mathematical simulation.Each module has an independent interaction area.At the same time,the virtual laboratory is also a transfer station to the sewage treatment unit.The sewage treatment structure case contains detailed process flow of different sewage treatment stages.The functions of VR courseware include autonomous roaming,process control,device recognition,mathematical simulation and PC mode.Autonomous roaming:Students can roam the scene in the software in an all-round way,break the limitations of space and time,and observe the structures from multiple perspectives.Process control:Guided by the menu,students can participate in the sewage treatment process by controlling the operation of the equipment and master the process.Equipment cognition:sewage treatment equipment in the scene can be observed,picked up,and scaled to control equipment operation.Mathematical simulation:The engineering simulation of the modified AAO process is realized through linkage simulation software,and the quality of the effluent water can be affected by the control of the water influent parameters.PC mode:in order to avoid VR motion sickness of a few people,a PC mode that does not rely on VR devices is developed,all contents in VR mode are preserved,and operation interaction is realized through keyboard and mouse.Students can experience the whole process of sewage treatment in software,learn the principle and engineering structure of sewage treatment process,operate engineering equipment,and run mathematical simulation.Adopt VR and PC dual mode to expand software application scope and improve software utilization.In addition,the usage of VR courseware is designed in this paper,student can learn and master the knowledge about structure,process flow,sewage treatment equipment,and process principles of practical teaching.At the same time,14 knowledge point videos and 99 operation videos are produced according to VR courseware and uploaded to the course website for students to preview.The development of the VR teaching software is a successful application of virtual reality technology and mathematical simulation technology in the field of environmental engineering.It establishes the workflow from 3D modeling to virtual reality development and realizes the organic combination of mathematical simulation and virtual reality,which provides experience for the development of VR teaching software in the future.Through online preview and classroom teaching,and VR practice teaching,this VR software has complementary advantages with traditional teaching,and changes the state of students passively receiving knowledge in traditional practice,opens a brand-new model for environmental engineering practice teaching.
