With the development of the industry and economy in the world, the consumption of fossil fuels accounts for an increasing proportion, and the demand for fossil fuels in the world is growing rapdily. In the field of oil and gas storage, oil tanks are mostly used for the storage. However, the petroleum liquids stored in oil tanks are inflammable and explosive dangerous chemicals.Theoil depot is an important place for oil storage. In the event of a fire, lots of thermal radiation will be emitted by the high temperature flame of the oil tank fire, which will have severe damage on the tank structure of the adjacent storage tank, and the evaporation and pressure change of the liquids in the adjacent storage tank will also be significantly affected.Studying the thermal response process of the storage tank and the internal pressure response under the radiation,as well as the flame behavior of the oil tank fire can bring an important reference to prevent the escalation of fire accidents in industrial scenes. In the paper, the oil storage tanks zone has been chosed as the study targer,In view of the development process of the oil tank fire(the thermal response, pressure build up,exploding and burning, respectively),some characteristic parameters of each phase are selected to research. In this study, the experiment platform of thermal response of pressure vessel under different liquid level and the experiment platform of the two oil tank fires under different tank diameter, spacing and lip height were set up respectively. The formation and development of the thermal stratification, the thermal and pressure response of the liquid storage tank and the flame height of two oil tank fires under different lip height, diameter and spacing were studied. In addition, the flame merging probability of two oil tank fires was discussed. The study results indicate that the temperature of liquid medium stratifies rapidly when the oil tank is subjected to a thermal shock, forming the thermal stratification phenomenon.Temperature stratification also appeared on the tank wall on the effect of thermal stratification medium. At the same liquid level, the average temperature rise rate of tank wall and medium increases with the increase of dimensionless liquid level. The temperature rise rate in different areas of the liquid storage tank is affected by the liquid level. The evaporation rate of the liquid medium increases with the increase of liquid level. The pressure response trend inside the liquid storage tank under different liquid levels is analogously. The pressure rising rate increases with the increase of liquid level when the steam is overheated. The experimental results of two oil tank fires show that when S/D≤0.4,the average flame height increases first and then decreases with the increase of dimemsionless lip height, and the flame merging probability of the cylindrical tank fires, which P≤0.2,is obviously smaller than that of the rectangular tank fires.
