At present 68 percent of China's rural population still use solid fuels(biomass and coal)for heating and cooking,of which about 74.4 million households are using inefficient stoves and poor quality raw coal for heating. The PM2.5 and black carbon generated by combustion account for 32 percent and 53 percent of air pollutants.Although the government actively promotes efficient and low-emission biomass and coal-burning stoves, tliere is still a lack of systematic evaluation on the emission reduction effects and in-depth research on their emission characteristics and also the design and development of new clean stoves. Therefore,it is necessary to study the pollutant emission characteristics of biomass and coal-fired stoves and develop clean biomass and coal stoves with energy-saving and emission reduction effects in the future.Based on a large number of field tests and laboratory tests'analysis, this paper designed and developed a biomass stove and a coal stove, which effectively controlled pollutant emissions, improved biomass energy efficiency and at the same time reducing its energy consumption. In this paper, the indoor and outdoor pollutant emissions of two clean stove-promotion demonstration sites in shandong and Heilongjiang provinces were tested and analyzed under different stoves and fuel combinations.Combustion characteristics and emission characteristics of stoves were studied. The research showed that due to low thermal efficiency and increased fuel consumption, the total amount of pollutant emission increased accordingly. In terms of indoor air, although indoor air pollution has been greatly reduced,it still failed to meet national and world standards.Four typical stove types and three fuels were cross-tested and studied in laboratory, and the influence of stove structure and other factors on pollutant discharge was analyzed.Studies have shown that the structure of the backburner,multi-stage combustion, functional differentiation device, new water-heating system and low-oxygen low-temperature combustion zone setting would effectively reduce the emission of NOx,PM2.5,SO2 and other major pollutants. At the same time, according to the laboratory test and analysis results, writer designed and developed a high-efficiency low-emission cooking stove.Based on the field test and research data of heilongjiang province and also the cooking habits of local people, the author designed and trial-produced a biomass stove suitable for the northeast China.Laboratory tests showed that the stove energy consumption was reduced by 7.39%,CO emissions were reduced by about 48.76%,and total PM2.5 emissions were reduced by 76.21%after the laboratory test improvement, which achieved a good effect of energy saving and emission reduction. The paper used field and laboratory test analysis's methods to study the biomass stoves and coal stoves' major pollutants characteristics and also developed the new type of clean stoves which improved the combustion efficiency and thermal performance of stoves and reduced the pollution emissions. The research results will provide data and technical support for the popularization of high-efficiency low-emission clean stoves in China.
