Infrared optical instruments(especially military infrared optical instruments)often work in the environment with a large temperature change.With the change of temperature,the thermal expansion coefficient and refractive conductivity's change of optical and mechanical material will lead to the phenomenon of out of focus and seriously affect the imaging quality.In order to eliminate this phenomenon and ensure good image quality,chalcogenide glass is introduced in the design.The material has high refractive index,high dispersion,good thermal character and wide transmission spectra etc.characteristics.So it can greatly eliminate thermal difference in the system.However,because of its long processing cycle,difficult processing,obvious impact of the material's physical properties on the system,so the chalcogenide material's qualification test and athermalized lens' research and development are equally important.This paper deeply studies the various characteristics of chalcogenide glass and athermalized lens' design principle;analyzes the athermalized product's development situation and trend at home and abroad.Especially research the testing of chalcogenide material's internal defects and uniformity,set up a test platform to test the material and has obtained some achievements.At the same time,simulation software was adopted to design an athermalized lens and the optical system has carried on the simulation to analyze the advantages of chalcogenide material.The reliability of using chalcogenide glass in the athermalized system has confirmed by trial-produce sample and test.
