Metal honeycomb is a regular two dimensional porous material with high porosity.It has good compression property,high temperature and corrosion resistance,significant electromagnetic shielding performance,excellent conductivity,heat insulation,sound insulation and other characteristics.As a novel structural and functional material,metal honeycomb can be applied to clean energy,environmental protection,automobile manufacturing,aerospace,national defense and other fields.And it has been a hot research direction in the field of material and mechanics.This paper mainly studied on casting process and compressive property of three aluminum honeycomb samples with pore sizes of 10 mm,8mm and 6mm respectively.Firstly,ProCAST software was used to numerically simulate the filling and solidification process of aluminum honeycomb,and the casting process was optimized and improved.The simulation results showed that the volume of shrinkage cavity increased with the decrease of pore size in the casting process.And then the sand mold structure was prepared by laser 3D printing of coated sand and aluminum honeycomb was manufactured in the method of casting.Besides,in-plane compressive performance of aluminum honeycomb was analyzed by ABAQUS software in order to study the deformation pattern along two directions.And the effect of pore size and relative density on the compressive performance of aluminum honeycomb was discussed by means of analyzing force-deformation curves.Finally,these simulation results were verified by experimental data.After comparing data of the simulation and the experimental,it was found that the results were basically consistent.The results show that the middle part of aluminum honeycomb begin to be extruded during the compression process,and gradually deformation extends to the upper and lower ends until the whole material has been completely compacted.And,the force-deformation curve includes three parts: elastic deformation area,plateau region and compaction area.The slope of the elastic deformation area and the force in the plateau region would improve with the decrease of the pore size and the increase of the relative density,and the compressive property and energy absorption performance would be enhanced.The larger the pore size,the longer the duration of the first two stages in the curve.In addition,the deformation mode of cells,compressive properties and energy absorption capacity would be different during compression along different directions.And it is necessary to choose the specific direction of the load according to the need of deformation and force.
