Sawing natural diamond can achieve a better surface than laser cutting,so it has a high application value.However,it has been found that there are problems in the process of sawing natural diamond,such as unclear cutting mechanism and lack of in-depth theoretical analysis of process guidance.At present,the evaluation of natural diamond processing surface is mostly limited to surface roughness,so the influence of some defects caused by the crystal after processing will be ignored.Many scholars have also discovered this problem,began to study the processing influence layer of natural diamond,and obtained some evaluation function results,but the research methods they used are mostly theoretical,complicated and have certain damage,the possibility of these methods being applied in actual production is very low.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the sawing process of natural diamond and the performance evaluation method with practical application value for the development of the diamond industry.Firstly,the material removal mechanism of sawing natural diamond is studied by mathematical modeling and theoretical analysis in this paper,and the related factors affecting the quality of sawing are analyzed.The finite element analysis software Abaqus was used to study the influence of the single abrasive particles on the stress and temperature changes during the sawing process with different scratching speed and scratch depth,and theoretical research in-depth on the cause of the surface damage of the workpiece was also conducted in this study.What's more,combined with the previous theoretical analysis,the traditional sawing process was supplemented and development,and then formed a more complete natural diamond sawing process.Based on the process,the variable parameters sawing experiment of the typical planes of octahedral natural diamond was carried out to verify the correctness of theoretical analysis,simulation and process flow,meanwhile the main phase forms of the phase composition and microscopic defects of the cutting surface were obtained.The defects of natural diamond crystals during processing are determined.Based on the traditional roughness evaluation,four evaluations including microcrystalline strain,dislocation density,interplanar spacing and carbonized layer depth are added,and a performance evaluation method based on X-ray diffraction non-destructive testing and partial least squares regression is proposed.A set of best performance evaluation methods for the natural diamond cutting surface obtained by sawing is proposed.The evaluation method can not only achieve a more comprehensive and non-destructive evaluation of the natural diamond processing surface,but also has higher practical value.According to the existing problems of sawing natural diamonds,the perfect natural diamond sawing process and new performance evaluation methods are summarized.
