With the rapid development of Internet technology and the increasing scale of shopping online, advance selling,as an effective marketing tool, has been gradually adopted by the majority of retailers and e-commerce platforms. Its biggest feature is the time separation of customer demand determination and physical delivery. In such time separation period, customers generally have a tolerance period in the face of shortage. However, the current inventory model development with advance selling does not take into account the customer's shortage tolerance period, and rarely pay attention to the environmental impact costs caused by the retailer's inventory management activities in the presence of advance selling. Therefore, this paper considers customer's shortage tolerance and carbon emissions caused by the retailer's replenishment, purchasing, selling and goods storage activities into the economic order quantity(EOQ)inventory model with partial advance selling, builds an environmentally responsible inventory system, discusses how the retailer determines the optimal advance selling period, the optimal spot selling period, the optimal selling period(or replenishment cycle),and the optimal order quantity,in order to realize the optimal control of inventory cost and lowcarbon sustainable inventory management under partial advance selling. The main work is given as follows.First, assuming that customers do not need prepayment during the advance selling period and upstream manufacturers have unlimited supply capacity, this paper develops and solves the basic partial advance selling inventory model considering shortage tolerance and carbon emission for retailer, obtains the determination conditions of the optimal solution, and gives the corresponding economic management implications. In order to verify the applicability of the model proposed and the correctness of relevant theoretical results, the author carries out numerical example analysis and explores the influence of model key parameters on the retailer decision variables and optimal average profit, from which some management insights are obtained. The increase of the shortage tolerance period will lead to the increase of the optimal average profit. In this case, the retailer should extend the optimal selling period(or replenishment interval),the optimal advance selling period, shorten the optimal spot selling period and increase the optimal order quantity. The increase of carbon emission cost caused by commodity storage will lead to the decrease of optimal average profit. At this time, the retailer should extend the optimal advance selling period, shorten the optimal selling period(or replenishment interval),the optimal spot selling period and reduce the optimal order quantity.Secondly,in order to further enrich and develop the basic partial advance selling inventory model that considers shortage tolerance and carbon emission for rretailer, this paper relaxes the assumption that customers do not need to prepay during the advance selling period, formulates the retailer partial advance selling inventory model considering shortage tolerance and carbon emission under prepayment, and analyzes the existence condition of the optimal solution of the model.Based on numerical example analysis, this paper examines the impact of changes in commodity selling price, prepayment ratio and interest rate(or capital cost)on the retailer decision variables, average carbon emission cost and optimal average profit. The results show that when the selling price is less than a certain threshold, the increase of the price will lead to the shortening of the optimal selling period(or replenishment interval),the shortening of the optimal pre-selling period, the lengthening of the optimal spot selling period, the reduction of the optimal order quantity, the increase of the average carbon emission cost and the increase of the optimal average profit. The increase of prepayment ratio and interest rate(or capital cost)will extend the optimal advance selling period and the optimal selling period(or replenishment interval),shorten the optimal spot selling period, increase the optimal order quantity, reduce the average carbon emission cost and increase the optimal average profit. Finally, based on the retailer partial advance selling inventory model considering shortage tolerance and carbon emission, this paper relaxes the assumption of unlimited supply capacity of upstream manufacturers, establishes the retailer partial advance selling inventory model considering shortage tolerance and carbon emission under limited supply, and solves the determination condition of the optimal solution of the model.Furthermore,in order to illustrate the applicability of building inventory model and the correctness of relevant theoretical results, the author gives numerical examples and analyzes the impact of the change of maximum supply on the retailer's decision variables, average carbon emission cost and optimal average profit. The results show that when the optimal order quantity is not exceeded, the continuous increase of the maximum supply will extend the optimal selling period(or replenishment interval),the optimal advance selling period and the optimal spot selling period, increase the optimal order quantity, reduce the average carbon emission cost and increase the optimal average profit. After the optimal order quantity is exceeded, the change of the maximum supply will not affect the decision variables, average carbon emission cost and optimal average profit.
