In the early 1990 s,Horomill opened a new era of laminating crushing machine successfully because of its wide pressure angle,medium operation pressure,high rotating speed and circularly crushing process.In order to take a place in the field of crushing machine,it’s highly imperative to promote the theoretical study,experimental study as well as the application of modern design method.Therefore,the following aspects are studied in this paper.(1)This paper analyzes the Horomill’s crushing characteristics and structure of material bed,then finishes the adaptive study of its crushing mechanism and energy consumption theory.Overall,the comparative analysis to the traditional granularity equations is conducted and then a new unified energy-granularity equation is derived by combining the RRB granularity equation and the unified energy equation.Furthermore,the influence rules of different factors on energy utilization rate are analyzed.(2)Beginning with the description of Horomill’s key process parameters,this paper creates laminating channel’s mathematical model and mechanical model,then analyzes how the mechanical characteristics of material,barrel as well as roller will change while material is being compressed and rebounding.After that,the laminating channel is divided into layers and crushing dynamics model is discussed in some ways.(3)This paper analyzes the Horomill’s experimental data,mainly explores the rules of how its key process parameters will affect product’s specific energy consumption,specific surface area and particle size distribution.According to the results,the product’s crushing quality cannot be improved unlimitedly even if increasing the operation pressure,and excessive pressure can only bring about more energy consumption and abrasion.Stable material bed is hard to form while the feeding rate is 5t/h,which might result in detrimental effects consequently.It’s much easier to obtain higher-quality product because stable material cakes are easily made at the feeding rate of 6.5t/h.To sum up,excessively high operation pressure as well as feeding rate will lead to equipment vibration,energy waste and other security issues.(4)This paper builds the simplified model of Horomill’s laminating channel,then carries out the simulation experiment of Horomill’s working process by applying the coupling method of DEM and FEM.Material’s laminating mechanical characteristics during the crushing process are analyzed in terms of laminating pressure and particle contact force,and comparative study of crushing ratio as well as valid crushing energy is completed while feeding rate and minimum thickness of material bed(An indirect reflection of operation pressure)are changing.Afterwards,data transmission from shell elements to solid elements is achieved on FEM software,so that the barrel’s and roller’s strength as well as stiffness are checked after receiving their mechanical characteristics from the software.The results above are able to provide theoretical references for Horomill’s actual production.Not only that,but modern design method is conducive to its structure design and optimization.
