VOCs emission control has been becoming more and more important with the growth of air pollution issue and public concerns,petrochemical industry is considered to be very sensitive industry while referring to waste emission.As the leading product of petrochemicals,the control of VOCs emission from Ethylene plants should be paid more attention.In this paper,VOCs from an ethylene plant with the yield capacity of 900 k tons per year was investigated.Through the method of purge-GC and GC,analysis VOCs concentration of waste water and the gas collected from waste water system,benzene series organics concentration of contaminated primary storm water was around 0.46mg/L,benzene series organics concentration of waste collecting pit was about 8.72mg/L,and benzene series organics concentration in the air which collected from the waste water treatment system was about 113 mg /Nm3.Using mass balance and actual analysis tools to calculate the VOCs emission from waste water,the annual emission was estimated to be 6916.76 kg,waste water pre-treatment and biochemical treatment system were the main emission sources.For the main emission sources,waste gases was suggested to be collected and treated,other sources should be studied and reduce emission from the pollution source.Design and process caused equipment failure is the main cause of VOCs emission from waste water pit of olefin WAO and primary storm water pit I of olefin.
