Submerged Arc Welding(SAW)is one of the most widely used welding technologies in the process of equipment manufacture,especially in the thick plate welding process.Moreover,it is a typical technology whose metal deposition rate reaches the top amount present welding methods,and is widely used in the manufacture process of large size equipment.The welding of thick steel plate is a difficult technical problem in the manufacture process of large size equipment.When welding thick plate on large size equipment,it is common to find flaws like crack,air bubble,etc.This paper studies the submerged arc welding process for median thickness steel plate on heavy machine,the formation of welding seams,the organization of joints,and its mechanical performance.Then,analyzes the cause of different defects to continuously optimize the process.First,this paper design 3 different WPS to studie the performance of submerge arc welding method with the Q345 steel plate,12 mm thick.Analyze the basic principles and welding standards of the submerged arc welding,the optimization of the welding technology,the inspection after welding,etc.Secondly,analyze the process of submerged arc welding based on electrical signals.Thirdly,analyze weld formation,physical and chemical property,etc.Fourthly,do the further study for the welding joint defects through the experimental research and theoretical analysis.Analyze the causes of various defects,and provide the basis for the improvement of the welding process.To sum up,the comparative analysis has been conducted to study the formation of weld,the structural characteristics and mechanical properties of joint,concerning on submerged arc welding.It is concluded that the optimal parameters of welding processing are from that of 1#sample,by analyzing the microstructure and mechanical properties of those three welding seams and heat effected areas,and in reference to welding requirements specified in standards like AWS.The process can be continuously improved and the defects during equipment manufacturing process can be controlled effectively to reach welding requirements and ensure the quality of equipment.This article can be used as a theoretical reference for welding of median thickness steel plate on heavy machine.
