In this paper,it is mainly studied the carboxymethylated modification of nylon fabric so as to improve the reactivity of nylon fabric and the flame retardant finishing so as to improve the flame retardancy of nylon fabric.As a result,it will improve the add of flame retardant and combination between flame retardant and nylon fabrics.First of all,nylon fabrics were modified by chloroacetic acid.The effect of modification parameters such as modification temperature,modification time,concentration of chloroacetic acid and dosage of isopropanol were discussed to optimize the modification process by testing the substitution of carboxy groups.The optimum process of the modification of nylon fabric was as follow:concentration of chloroacetic acid is 10%,the dosage of isopropanol is 90 mL,the reaction temperature and time are 60? and 90 min,respectively.The carboxymethylated modification had less negative effect on its white index and mechanical properties,and the tensile strength decreased below 10%.In a word,carboxymethylated modification has little harm to nylon fabric.Secondly,the thiourea/silica sol were used to treat the nylon fabric before and after carboxymethylated modification by pad-dry-cure technology.It is found that after being treated with thiourea/silica sol,the LOI value of the carboxymethylated nylon fabric was increased to 35.0%,much higher than that of control nylon fabric with LOI of 28.2%.And the heat release rate(HRR)and total heat release(THRR)were reduced respectively,which had better flame retardancy property than unmodified nylon fabric.After washing,the LOI value decreased because of the poor combination between flame retardants and modified nylon fabric.But carboxymethylated nylon fabric had better washing durability than unmodified one.Finally,the trihydroxymethyl phosphine oxide(THPO)was used as the flame retardant to treat the nylon fabric before and after carboxymethylated modification.It is found that the LOI value of the carboxymethylated fabric was 31.6%,which was higher than control nylon fabric with LOI of 27.1%,and the damaged area and char length of carboxymethylated nylon fabric showed significant decrease than that of control nylon fabric.The heat release rate(HRR)and total heat release(THRR)were reduced,and the thermal stability was improved.After washing,the LOI value decreased,but compared with the unmodified fabric,there was still an increasing.What's more,the char length was within 150 mm,which still had a certain flame retardancy effect.
