Environmental polutions have become increasingly serious in recent years.The printing and dyeing industry always have huge problems in wastewater treatment because of the complex composition of the wastewater and the high cost.Among the methods to remove dyes from wastwaters,adsorption has gained much attention for its easy processing,high efficiency but low cost.Graphite oxide(GO)is obtained by oxidation of graphite.Since graphite sheets contain a large amount of hydroxyl groups,carboxyl groups,etc.,GO has good water solubility.Because of its unique lamellar structure,GO is used to modify other materials.Chitosan is widely used in water treatment and other fields because of its good adsorption of dyes,water solubility,safety and biodegradablilitis.In this paper,chitosan graft poly acrylic acid/Graphite oxide(CTS-g-PAA/GO)composite was prepared by solution intercalation polymerization of GO,acrylic acid(AA)and chitosan(CTS),using N,N-methylenebisacrylamide(MBA)as cross-linking agent and potassium sulfate(KPS)as an initiator.The composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).This composite was used for adsorbing anionic and cationic dyes in aqueous solutions.The effect of GO content,pH,ionic strength,initial concentration of dyes,and composites amount on the adsorption capacities were studied.The desorption and adsorption mechanisms were also studied.The adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics were analyzed.
