Uranium tailings dam is one of the fundamental facilities of uranium hydrometallurgy plant, which is also the construction sits of uranium tailings and water. Not only is it related to the security of the downstream inhabitants, but also plays a pivotal role in the protection of the surroundings. Therefore, the uranium tailings dam in southwest China is taken as the research object,in order to study the factors affected the safety and stability of the uranium tailings dam,and taken three kinds of tailings samples at different positions and depths of the dry beach. The relationship among sample shear strength, internal friction angle, cohesion and water content,as well as the relationship between permeability and water content in gas-liquid mixture were analyzed.Based on the corresponding test results, the following conclusions could be drawn:(1)1)With the increase of water content, the internal friction angle and cohesive force show a regular increase, while the shear strength of tailings sand is proportional to the internal friction angle and cohesion. It is known that the shear strength of tailings The water content increases and gradually increases. The optimum moisture content increases to the peak value of 32%.However,the difference between the sand sample depth and physical parameters has a slight influence on the shear strength of the sand sample. The shear strength of the three sand samples The change is not exactly the same.(2)Multi-field coupling permeability apparatus was used to test the transform in the permeability of the three kinds of sand samples. When the sand sample, with the continuous input of gas and the decrease of water content, was in the gas-liquid phase, the permeability of sand sample No.1 and sand sample No.2 was increased continuously until it remained unchanged. However, the permeability of sand sample No.3 was declined gradually with the decrease of water content.
