Since the discovery of fullerenes,researchers have conducted extensive and in-depth explorations to study many properties of fullerenes and discovery many kinds of fullerenes.The novel non-IRP fullerenes that violate the isolated pentagon rule have caught more attention of researchers because some of them have excellent properties which can be applied to catalyst,solar cells and so on,and some of them are with special structure which is significant to the research of formation mechanism of fullerenes.There are many difficulties in synthesis and separation of novel non-IPR fullerenes because of the inherent instability of novel non-IPR fullerenes.At present,in the researches about the synthesis of fullerenes by combustion method,single aromatic hydrocarbon compounds such as benzene and toluene are mostly used as fuels,and the researches focus on optimizing the yield of fullerene C60 and C70 instead of non-IPR fullerenes.Novel non-IPR fullerenes can be effectively synthesized by combustion method using benzene/acetylene as fuels.The main objectives of my work are building a lager combustion equipment to continuously synthesize fullerene and optimizing the synthesis conditions so that we can obtain plenty soot which contains many novel fullerenes.Then more novel non-IPR fullerenes can be obtained by the separation technology of my group.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1.Herein,we designed and set up the low pressure combustion equipment,which is made up of material supply system,burner,ignition system,combustion furnace,soot collection system,pressure-control system,circulating water-cooling system,for synthesizing fullerenes.We can continuously and macroscopically synthesize fullerenes by this combustion equipment.2.Herein,the product soot was extracted and analyzed.We observed signals of various kinds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,novel non-IPR fullerenes and fullerene derivatives,which proves the feasibility of synthesizing novel fullerenes by this equipment and low pressure diffusion flame combustion method.3.Herein,we optimize the technological conditions of combustion,and researched the influence of the C/O ratio,pressure,and the way of supplying material.The peak production of soot could reach about 5 kg per day.
