In this paper, with benzoyl peroxide(BPO)as the initiator, xylene as the interfacial agent, glycidyl methacrylate(GMA),maleic anhydride(MAH)and styrene(St)as co-monomers,the functionalization of polybutylene-1(PB-1)was carried out by the solid phase graft method. The effect on the melt flow rate(MFR),the melt strength, the graft rate and the graft efficiency of the graft product was investigated by the amount and ratio of monomers.,the amount of BPO and xylene, reaction temperature and time to determine the optimal reaction condition via the solid phase graft modification of polybutylene-1.The results are as follows:(1)The FT-IR and SEM results showed that monomers-GMA and MAH were successfully grafted onto PB-1,which distributed evenly. The DSC and XRD results showed that the melting temperature of St/GMA graft products decreased and the crystallization temperature increased, while the melting temperature and crystallization temperature of St/MAH graft products increased.Meanwhile, the crystalline forms didn't change.(2)When the graft monomer was GMA,the reaction temperature was 100 ~oC,the reaction time was 2 h,m(PB-1):m(Xylene):m(GMA):m(BPO)=20:2:1:0.06,n(St):n(GMA)=1:1,the graft yield(G_p)and the graft efficiency(G_e)of the graft product were the highest. When the grafting monomer was MAH,the reaction temperature was 100 ~oC,the reaction time was 2 h,m(PB-1):m(Xylene):m(MAH):m(BPO)=20:1.4:1.2:0.12,n(St):n(MAH)=1:1,the MS of the graft product reached the maximum. The addition of co-monomer ST could inhibit the degradation of PB-1 macromolecular free radicals and promote the graft of GMA and MAH onto the main chain of PB-1,which enhanced the surface energy and melt strength of the graft products.(3)The results of contact angle measurements showed that GMA and MAH could effectively improve the polarity and surface energy of PB-1.With the increase of GMA and MAH content, the contact angle of the graft product decreased gradually and the hydrophilicity of the graft product increased significantly.(4)The non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the PB-1-g-(GMA-co-St)and PB-1-g-(MAH-co-St)was studied. It was found that the cooling rate had a great influence on the crystallization process of PB-1-g-(MAH-co-St).The initial temperature, ending temperature and crystallization peak temperature of the graft products shifted to a lower temperature with the increase of the cooling rate, which indicated that the cooling rate had a significant effect on the nucleation and crystal growth of the graft products.(5)When the graft ratio of PB-1-g-(GMA-co-St)was 4.8%,the spherulite size of PB-1was significantly smaller than that of pure PB-1.The presence of monomer GMA/St played a heterogeneous nucleation role in PB-1 and the number of nuclei was larger. However, the molecular chain of MAH was shorter. And the crystallization effect of PB-1-g-(MAH-co-St)was better than that of PB-1-g-(GMA-co-St).
