Petroleum is the primary energy in the current world. The International oil trade has been showing a trend of rapid growth in order to cope up with the requirements of international economic development. In the process of oil extraction and transportation, the oil spill accident often happen caused by the adverse ocean environment and increased ocean boats, resulting in serious ecological disaster to the environment and huge damage to human life. Therefore,it is of great significance to take knowledge of the treatments marine oil spill. The principle of In-situ combustion is quickened the oil combustion rate, which is one of the important means in the handling of the oil spill.Based on the research about In-situ combustion,in view of the inadequacy of existing research, this paper further conducts experiments of rectangular aluminum plates with different heights inserted into oil pool fires to investigate the effects of plat on combustion behavior. The flame height increases to a stable maximum value with the increasing oil combustion after the oil is ignited. The stable flame height of the oil pool with an insert plate is larger than that of without the plate, and which increases with the plate height. The flame height and plate temperature trend of ethanol are the same as n-heptane.With the increase of the plate height, the flame height presents a non-monotonic trend of first increasing and then decreasing(’Λ’-type trend). The critical point is near Hp/D=3.5 and the temperature critical point is near Hp/D=3.5.Using the retention layer model, the temperature distribution of the aluminum plate, the flame height, and the burning rate of ethanol are compared and analyzed with n-heptane oil pool. The height of the aluminum plate with the greatest effect on the burning rate is obtained.Besides, the effects of flame height, aluminum plate temperature, heat feedback and B-number on the oil burning rate are revealed. The oil burning rate was accelerated of the oil pool with an insert plate, which mainly caused by the lengthened flame height and the rapidly raised temperature of the plate.Downward heat conduction makes nucleate boiling of the fuel, the increased heat flux to accelerate the evaporation of the fuel, thus speeding up the burning rate. The theoretical burning rate is higher than that of the experimental, mainly because the heat losses of the external environment and cooling system are neglected.
