In this thesis,we tried to modify the mechanical properties and combustion performance of the EPDM by adding individual halogen-free retarding agents,multiple retarding agents and new type nano flame retarding material into the rubber formula.For better comparison and analyze,the flame retardant rubber formula met requirements of windshield products was then developed,and the feasibility of industrialization production was assessed at the same time.The properties of EPDM filled with Al(OH)3,MRP,and EG was studied,the results showed that:by adding Al(OH)3 or MRP,the flame retarding indictors such as peak HRR,THR,TSR,MARHE and smoke density decreased significantly,and with the amount increasing,the flame retardancy and smoke suppression raised but the tensile strength decreased,the best combined performance was obtained especially when the Al(OH)3 content was 80 phr or the EG content was 20 phr.The properties of EPDM filled with multi-agent systems such as APP/PER/MEL and POSS was studied.The results showed that:the ratio of APP/PER/MEL was very important and the best combination was APP/PER/MEL=24:13:13 when the flame retarding performance and smoke reduction reached the best level,on this basis,by adding OVP,thermal decomposition temperature of nanon hybrid materials EPDM/PSS/IFR raised significantly and carbon yield improved which built compact char layer brought good thermal and oxygen blockage,the more the content of OVP,the less the content of HRR,THR,MARHE and Ds,the higher the tensile strength.Different kinds of new type nano flame retarding materials such as OMMT,POSS were used to modifty the properties of EPDM EPDM/OMMT nano-composite and EPDM/POSS nano-composite were investigated The results indicated that:EPDM could not be made into intercalation complex by adding non-modified Na+-MMT,but the nano-composite of EPDM/OMMT was formed successfully with significant decrease of HRR,THR and Ds during combustion process.The more the content of OMMT,the better performance of flame retardancy and smoke suppression,it could reach a stable level ant last.In addition,the indicators of nano-composite EPDM/OMMT as HRR,THR,MARHE and Ds could be reduced by adding EG or Al(OH)3,or POSS.By adding POSS tensile strength could be raised significantly.The nano-composite could meet the flame retardant requirements of EN 45545-2 and DIN5510-2 and functional requirements of wind shield products such as tensile strength,weather resistance and flexure resistance.The wind shield products prepared by Nano-composite EPDM/OMMT/EG or EPDM/OMMT/Al(OH)3 could meet technology requirements of rubber materials and products.The properties of rubber materials such as mechanical properties,weather resistance,flexure resistance,flame retardancy and yellowing resistance,is superior to that of foreign products.Then the external and internal wind shield products could be applied in engineering production.
