Cerium is an important rare earth material.Because of its high abundance in the earth's crust,it has been widely used in many fields.Scientists found that the mechanical properties of Cerium are similar to that of Plutonium,so Cerium can also be used as a simulation material for Plutonium research. It is of great significance to improve the surface quality of Plutonium for its application in the nuclear field. However, due to the radioactivi ty of the Plutonium, studies cannot be conducted using the Plutonium as an object. Therefore,it is hoped that the study of the high-quality surface of the Cerium can provide reference for the preparation of high-quality surface Plutonium. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of cutting parameters on the quality of the machining surface during the diamond cutting process.ABAQUS software was used to establish the finite element model of the Cerium diamond cutting. The finite element simulation was performed on the diamond cutting process of the Cerium under different cutting parameters, and combined with the cutting experiment.A finite element model of Cerium diamond cutting process was established.Firstly, the tensile test of Cerium was carried out to obtain its plastic constitutive equation, which laid the foundation for carrying out finite element simulation research.Firstly, the tensile test of Cerium was carried out to obtain its plastic constitutive equation, which laid the foundation for carrying out finite element simulation research. Then, the two-dimensional finite element model of orthogonal cutting and the three-dimensional finite element model of face turning were established by using the constitutive equations obtained by the metal tensile test. The finite element simulation study of Cerium was carried out.The influence of cutting thickness, cutting speed, cutting edge radius, and tool rake angle on the surface quality obtained by machining was studied by using a two-dimensional model of metal boring orthogonal cutting.Using the three-dimensional model of face turning of Cerium, the effect of feed rate and depth of cut on the surface quality obtained by machining was studied. The influence of these parameters on the surfac e residual stress and surface roughness was obtained separately. An experimental study was conducted on the cutting of Cerium. The ultra-precision lathes are used to carry out the experiment of Cerium diamond cutting, and the white light interferometer are used to detect the processing quality of Cerium. The effects of machining parameters, such as feed amount and depth of cut,on the quality of the machined surface were studied. The results were compared qualitatively with the results of the simulation stu dy.The influence of parameters on the surface quality during the machining process of the Cerium was obtained.
