Study On The Design Of Animal Modeling Lamps And Lanterns During The Han Dynasty

This thesis takes the animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties as the main research object,and conducts a comprehensive and in-depth exploration on the shape characteristics,material technology,modeling characteristics,and the advanced design ideas contained among those animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties from the perspective of the design science.During the development process of the animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties,it carried the most basic lighting demands of human beings as well as the pursuit of living quality;it experienced a complex process from simplicity to complexity with the constantly improved aesthetic level of creation.Its application and popularization made an immortal contribution to the development of human society.This contribution is not only reflected in the effect on the modeling of lamps for posterity,but also includes the advanced creation thought contained in it.Currently,people lay stress on inheriting and innovating the traditional culture.In this way,it is of great significance to explore the design features and design philosophy of animalshaped lamps in the Han Dynasties so as to guide the way of modern design.This thesis takes the design science as the main research method,and combines many multidisciplinary research methods,such as archaeological typology,history,sociology,culturology,materials science.It conducts an all-around and multi-angle analysis on the animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties through many methods,including collecting data,literature research,comparative analysis,case demonstration,etc.The research of this thesis begins with the origin and development of the animal lamps,and analyzes the motivation of the prevalence of animal lamps in the Han Dynasties from a macroscopic perspective;then,it conducts a quantitative analysis on the lamps from the following aspects: the geographical distribution,the usage of material quality,and the height of the lamps;it applies the archaeological typology to classify the types and patterns of the lamps,compares the commonness and individuality between different animal lamps,and then summarizes the evolving regularities of different modeling lamps.In the aspect of the lamps' material quality,it mainly expounds the relation between the making technology and decoration of different material qualities.By generalizing the modeling characteristics of the lamps,this thesis lays a foundation for summarizing the excellent design ideas embodied in the animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties.Finally,the advanced design ideas embodied in ancient lamps are absorbed to act as the thinking direction and theoretical guidance in the process of guiding design practice.In brief,the formation of animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties is closely relevant to the social productive forces and culture at that period of time,from which we can summarize the connection between China's ancient utensil design and the science,the social custom,and the functional demands,and obtain the design philosophy of creations in the Han Dynasties from the research on the animal-shaped lamps so as to enrich the spiritual connotation of the traditional creation design in China.In view of the fact that the thematic researches on the animal-shaped lamps during the Han Dynasties is not perfect,it is hoped that the exploration of the shape regularity,the modeling characteristics,and the social value of the animal-shaped lamps in this thesis will slightly contribute to the research on the animal-shaped lamps in the Han Dynasties.
