The standard twist drills used widely in the process of hole machining,but the process proceed in a closed environment and some negative conditions exist consequentially,for instance,bad conditions of processing,lower efficiency of cutting and poorer precision of machining.The cutting performance of cutting tools can be improve effectively by changing the shape of drill point and modifying the type of the drill's cutting edge,the efficiency of machining and the quality of drilling holes can be improved as well.The cutting performance is closely related to the geometrical parameters,but it is hard to measure the angle of the drill's cutting edge,what is more,the angle is different at different places.Taking the efficient drills with four lands designed by a certain company as research objects in this paper,the geometrical parameters can be obtained by using the method of reverse and re-modeling.The method has positive significances on the studying of cutting performance of cutting tools and the exploring of new type of high-efficiency drilling tools.First of all,the structural analysis of the efficient drills with four lands should be adopted,collect the parameters of cutting tools by structural and optical scanning method,and then process cloud data of scanning points,so that the necessary structural parameters for drill point modeling can be extracted;Secondly,build the digital model for the efficient drills with four lands in three-dimensional CAD software and analyze the errors which may be appeared in the modeling process,for the purpose of reducing the modeling errors as far as possible.Based on the digital modal of the efficient drills with four lands,the orthogonal coordinate system can be established.By measuring the angles or parameters for the main and the side cutting edge and inside cutting edge,some geometrical parameters,for example,the rake angle,clearance angle,the inclination angle and the slantwise angle can be obtained;The distribution law of parameters can be chalked up by measuring the angle value of several points in the cutting edge simultaneously,and the effects of the law in the process of drilling operations is analyzed as well.The cutting performance experiment for the efficient drills with four lands is accomplished,what is more,various parameters for cutting performance can be obtained,such as drilling force,cut chip,drilling precision,the surface roughness of the machining-hole and the wear of the drill's cutting edge,etc.In addition,the comparative analysis for cutting performance among the efficient drills with four lands,the standard twist drills and the multiface drills also be accomplished which makes it clear that the efficient drills with four lands have favorable cutting performance.Compared with other drilling tools,the efficient drills with four lands not only has small axial force or torque but also a good chip-removal ability.Besides,some technique features such as high precision,good surface roughness of machining hole and excellent wear resistance be contained as well.
