Polyphenylene sulfide(PPS)fiber is a kind of high-performance fibres.Due to its outstanding thermal stability,chemical stability,fire resistance,electrical insulating and very low water absorption,the PPS fiber has been widely used in these fields of filtering material in the high-temperature environment,electrical insulation,functional cloth,etc.Compared with the ordinary PPS fiber,the PPS ultrafine fiber(the diameter<5μm)is a high added-value product.Currently,the PPS ultrafine fiber is mainly prepared by sea-island method.This preparation technique has a long technological route and needs the use of massive solvent,which results in the environmental problem.So the PPS ultrafine fibre obtained by sea-island method is too expensive to be used in many applications.In this work,we considered that the melt-blown method is a reasonable and feasible way to prepare the PPS ultrafine fiber.Based on the previous work,three kinds of PPS resin were chosen to measure the fluidity by the melt flow indexer and rheometer.A PPS resin with proper melt flow rate(MFR)was found to be suitable for the preparation of the PPS ultrafine fiber by the melt-blown method.The SEM shows that the most of the PPS ultrafine fiber is12μm in diameter.The as-spun PPS ultrafine fiber shrinks strongly under high-temperature condition.The anchoring strength between the fibers is weak and the formed nonwoven web is lower in strength.In order to improve the strength and thermal stability of the PPS ultrafine fiber,the thermal treatment is necessary for the fiber.The result shows that the tensile properties of PPS ultrafine fiber could be improved by the higher hot rolling pressure or temperature.The PPS ultrafine fiber possessed the best tensile properties under the hot rolling pressure of 50.0 MPa and the temperature of 85℃,staying with a tensile tenacity of 29.4 MPa.Meanwhile,the PPS ultrafine fiber also possessed good air permeability under the hot rolling pressure of 50.0 MPa and the temperature of 85℃.PPS non-woven fabrics have the good thermal properties after being heat-treated with 6 min under 150℃.The micro-structural,crystal structure and hydrophilism of the PPS ultrafine fiber will be indicate by SEM,XRD and contact angle machine.The as-spun PPS ultrafine fiber can be used as oil adsorption materials for the first time.The results shows that the saturated adsorption capacity of PPS ultrafine fiber mat for vegetable oil,crude,machine oil and diesel is 45 g/g,38 g/g,39 g/g,30 g/g,respectively,and is two and four times of the commercial PP non-woven fabric.The saturated oil absorption of PPS nultrafine fiber wet,after used for several times and recycled,is still better than PP non-woven fabric.In addition,PPS ultrafine fiber wet equip with very outstanding oil-holding capability and its oil-holding rate is more than 80%for different oils in this paper.Moreover,the max oil-absorption rate of the PPS ultrafine fiber wet could reached 4.40 g·g-1/s.When the oil temperature in 1545℃,PPS ultrafine fiber wet can keep high uptake capacity for the different oils.
