In this work,a novel method for balancing the steady-state design and dynamic control of binary distillation columns is developed in terms of the averaged absolute variation magnitudes(AAVM).Under the strict control of top and bottom product qualities, the AAVM represents the averaged absolute variation magnitudes of the temperature differences between sensitive stage and rest ones aroused by feed composition disturbances.Because the AAVM can reflect the intrinsic nature of the interaction between the rectifying section and stripping section,it can predict accurately the influences of feed location variations on process dynamics.Applying it to balancing steady-state design and dynamic control, the AAVM is likely to abate the complexity and intensity of search computations. With reference to two distillation columns separating, respectively, ethanol and butanol and propane and isobutene binary mixtures, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method is thoroughly evaluated. The obtained outcomes demonstrated that the proposed method can not only work effectively in balancing the steady-state design and dynamic control of binary distillation columns but also reduce dramatically the complexity and intensity of search computations.
