This study has been focused at the research of self-floating hydrophobic silica particles by the Sol-gel process,which is a facile and an economical way.This method is created on occurrence of hydrolysis and condensation reactions,wherein Tetraethyl ortho-silicate(TEOS)and a synthetic product(octadecyl 2-((3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)amino)acetate)SP are used as initiating precursor at different the ratios of TEOS:SP to form the silica particles.Silica particles in both liquid as well as powder forms at unalike configurations of weight percent have been exposed to the photo-polymerization(by UV-365 at light intensity of 22m W/cm2 for 60s)with polyethylene glycol diacrylate in the occurrence of(2-hydroxyl-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone(1173))photo-initiator on a glass substrate.During the process,most of the silica underwent self-floatation,but a bit residue remained below.The ratio of TEOS to the SP has proved to be highly influential towards hydrophobicity,roughness and glossy nature of this polymer films.It has been found that either using liquid silica particles or powdered silica particles,1:5 ratio yielded maximum hydrophobicity and roughness with minimum glossy nature of polymer films.Since all the desirable results are obtained using liquid silica particles.Glossy nature in case of using centrifuged silica film in range of 0.5-3%by weight is higher than that of liquid silica particles,beyond this range up to the 5%by weight,it decreases adequately even less than of liquid silica particles.FTIR study is executed to recognize numerous functional groups in the equipped materials,although,TEM and SEM are conducted to examine particle size and surface morphology correspondingly.The results designated that TEOS:SP ratio has verified to be highly significant,among them 1:5 ratio is the most beneficial in terms of yielding maximum self-floating,hydrophobicity and roughness with minimum glossy nature of silica.The aim of that report is to deliver a complete scientific advancement of hydrophobic self-floating silica to estimate its future perspective.The report concludes with a momentary conversation on the influence of silica and combines effect with linked materials on the environment and engineering prospectus and its upcoming scenes in this rapidly developing field.
