Aimed at the thermal damage of carbon fiber composite materials during laser cutting such as: heat affected zone,fiber protrusion,delamination and so on,laser and water jets are applied to the cutting of carbon fiber composite materials to improve the cutting quality.In this paper,water jet assisted laser cutting of carbon fiber composites was studied,mainly from the establishment of the theoretical calculation model and verification of the parameters of the incision shape,the simulation of the thermal effects during the processing,the influence of the pulse laser process parameters,and the water jet flow velocity to the thermal damage.And the effect of flow velocity and pore size on the thermal damage of CFRP was studied.The detailed contents studied in the paper are as follows:(1)On the theoretical model of the laser direct cutting process put forward by previous authors,the cooling and erosion effects of water jet assisted machining were introduced,and the theory of the relationship between water jet assisted laser cutting CFRP and jet flow velocity,pulse energy,repetition frequency and scanning speed was established.The model was used to estimate the upper and lower kerf width and cone angle after processing,and related experiments were performed.The results show that the theoretical model simulation results are consistent with the experimental results.(2)The change trend of heat affected zone with jet flow velocity and pulse energy in composite cutting is studied by ABAQUS,and the influence of various processing parameters on CFRP thermal damage of water jet assisted laser cutting is studied by using single factor experiment method.The experiment shows that the introduction of water jet does improve the thermal damage of the laser cutting CFRP material.When the water jet increases regularly in the 0~26m/s range,the length of the upper and lower surface fiber and the width of the maximum heat affected zone are decreased;When the pulse energy is increased between 2.12J~3.75 J,they are increased.With the increase of the pulse width between 1.5mS~2.1mS,they are all increasing.When the repetition rate increases,they are all increasing;And they are prominent when the scanning speed increases between 0.5mm/s~4mm/s.(3)The experiment of water jet assisted laser rotary cutting hole was carried out,and the heat damage under the different velocity and aperture was compared and analyzed.The experiment showed that the heat damage of the compound rotary cutting hole was improved greatly by the water jet.The smaller the pore size,the more heat damage in the same place,the suitable parameters should be adjusted to obtain better quality in the process of addition.
